La Coupole, near Saint-Omer in the Pas-de-Calais, is a wartime V-weapon bunker — a massive reinforced concrete dome built by the Organisation Todt using forced labor beginning in 1943, intended as the primary launch facility for V-2 rockets aimed at London. Allied bombing in 1944 rendered it inoperable before a single rocket was fired from the site. It opened as a museum and science center in 1997, with the planetarium added later.
The souvenir euro program, administered through licensed issuers and printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire on genuine banknote paper, has no legal tender status anywhere — a fact made explicit on each note. Oberthur holds the production contract for the majority of French souvenir issues in this format.
