The 0 Euro souvenir note program, launched by the European Collector's Association in 2015, positioned these pieces as legal-curiosity collectibles — denominated at zero, they carry no redemption value but are printed on genuine banknote paper by licensed security printers, Oberthur among them. La Conciergerie's participation fits neatly with the Centre des Monuments Nationaux's broader retail strategy: the notes are sold at site gift shops for around five euros, making the denomination printed on them the least interesting number involved.
Oberthur's Rennes facility has produced French security documents since the nineteenth century. The hologram strip meets current euro-series specification standards, a deliberate choice to reinforce perceived authenticity.
