Euro Souvenir notes — issued under the Union Européenne des Fabricants de Curiosités (UEFC) framework — are legal-looking novelty items with no monetary value, produced specifically for the tourist trade. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of France's principal security printers, handles much of the series, lending these pieces genuine banknote-quality paper and intaglio-style printing that routinely fools the uninitiated.
La Cité de l'Espace in Toulouse opened in 1997, built partly on the prestige of the city's role in European aerospace manufacturing and the nearby CNES facilities. Oberthur's Chantepie plant produced this note.
