Zero-euro souvenir notes have been sold at French tourist attractions since 2015, printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire under license from the European Central Bank, which permits their production provided they carry no monetary value and cannot be mistaken for legal tender. This example was issued for L'Aventure Michelin, the museum dedicated to the tyre company's history located in Clermont-Ferrand, Michelin's home city since its founding in 1889. The caterpillar — mille-pattes — is a direct reference to Bibendum, the Michelin Man, whose tubular body has drawn the obvious comparison since the mascot was designed by O'Galop in 1898.
Oberthur's involvement is fitting: they print actual banknotes for numerous sovereign states, so the production quality here exceeds what the zero face value might suggest.
