The zero-euro souvenir note program launched in France around 2015 and quickly became a serious secondary market. This Michelin-themed piece was issued through the ESBA framework, which standardizes security features — including a genuine eurion constellation and UV-reactive elements — across the entire souvenir series, making them technically more sophisticated than many circulating notes from smaller issuing authorities.

Oberthur Fiduciaire's involvement is worth noting. The firm has printed currency for dozens of sovereign states; applying that same infrastructure to a commemorative zero-denomination piece is an unusual deployment of high-security production capacity.
