The 0 Euro souvenir series, commercially launched around 2015 by EEAD in partnership with Oberthur Fiduciaire, occupies a legal grey area that is deliberately uncomplicated: denominated at zero, the notes have no monetary value and therefore require no central bank authorization, yet they are printed to genuine security banknote standards — Oberthur's full production line, including the paper and print quality used for circulating issues. This one commemorates the Cathedral of St. Elizabeth in Košice, the easternmost Gothic cathedral in Europe and Slovakia's largest church, consecrated in stages between the 14th and 15th centuries.
Collector demand for regional Slovak subjects in this series has been notably stronger than the European average, with Košice issues typically selling out at point-of-sale within weeks of release.
