Obverse description The obverse bears a reproduction of the 1866 painting 'Väinämöisen soitto' (Väinämöinen's Play) by Finnish painter Robert Wilhelm Ekman, rendered as a central vignette in warm tones. Inscriptions in both Finnish and English identify the subject as the Kalevala, Finland's national epic, accompanied by an excerpt from the poem in Finnish. The denomination 'EUROSOUVENIR 2022-1' and the artist's name appear within the lower portion of the design.
