EuroSouvenir notes occupy an odd corner of notaphily — technically legal tender in the Schengen zone at face value, though no rational person would spend one. Oberthur Fiduciaire produces the series under license from the European Central Bank, applying the same security printing standards used for circulating euro banknotes, which is precisely why collectors treat them seriously. The Réunion issue is one of dozens in the French overseas territories subset, reflecting the island's status as an outre-mer department and therefore part of the eurozone proper — not an approximation of it.
