The zero euro souvenir note was introduced by the European Central Bank in 2015 as a legal curiosity — face value of nothing, yet technically issued within the euro framework and exempt from counterfeiting law precisely because it carries no monetary value. Oberthur Fiduciaire prints the series under license, applying the same security features used on circulating currency, which is the main commercial point: collectors get genuine banknote paper, genuine intaglio printing, genuine holograms.

This example commemorates the trulli of Alberobello, the UNESCO-listed limestone dwellings of Puglia. R. Faille's signature appears as the authorized issuer signatory for EuroSouvenir, the Paris-based company that holds the ECB license and commissions individual tourist-market designs.
