Český Šternberk castle has stood above the Sázava river gorge since the mid-thirteenth century and remains in the continuous possession of the Šternberk family — one of the very few Czech noble families to retain their ancestral seat through both the post-1948 nationalization and the subsequent 1989 restitution. The 0 Euro souvenir format, distributed through Oberthur Fiduciaire's Euro Souvenir program, has become the dominant vehicle for this kind of regional tourism issue across continental Europe since the concept was commercialized in the mid-2010s.
Oberthur's involvement ensures genuine banknote-grade paper and the holographic strip, which gives these pieces more physical substance than most commemorative ephemera.
