The Wilhelmus is generally accepted as the oldest national anthem in the world with a known author — the text attributed to Marian propagandist Philips van Marnix van Sint Aldegonde, likely written between 1568 and 1572 during the Dutch Revolt against Spanish rule. It did not become the official Dutch national anthem until 1932, having spent centuries as an informal patriotic song. This souvenir zero-euro note commemorates that history.
