Herman Brood — Dutch rock musician, painter, and committed self-destructive — died in August 2001 after jumping from the Amsterdam Hilton. His paintings, which sold well during his lifetime and considerably better afterward, have a following serious enough to make him a credible souvenir subject. The ESBA's zero-euro program has leaned heavily on Dutch cultural figures, and Brood fits the mold: recognizable, marketable, and safely deceased.
Printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire, these carry genuine security features — the same firm produces legal tender across multiple jurisdictions — which is the ESBA's standard selling point. R. Faille's signature as PEBN CEO appears on every note in the series regardless of subject matter.
