0 Euro - Grotte Chauvet 2

Grotte Chauvet, discovered in 1994 in the Ardèche, contains some of the oldest known cave paintings on earth — radiocarbon dated to around 36,000 years before present. The replica site, Caverne du Pont d'Arc (informally Chauvet 2), opened in 2015 after a decade of construction, built precisely because the original cave has been closed to the public since its discovery to prevent the atmospheric damage that destroyed much of Lascaux after it was opened to visitors in the 1950s.

Oberthur Fiduciaire, which prints genuine euro banknotes for the Banque de France, also handles much of the Eurosouvenirs program — a minor irony given that these zero-denomination pieces carry no monetary value whatsoever.
