The Aven Armand cave in the Lozère department of southern France was discovered in 1897 by Louis Armand, guided by a note from his employer, the speleologist Édouard-Alfred Martel — who had spotted the entrance himself but sent his assistant down the rope first. The cavern contains what is considered the largest concentration of stalagmites in any known cave system.
Euro Souvenir notes carry no monetary value and are not legal tender; Oberthur prints them using genuine banknote-grade paper and security features, which is precisely why collectors treat them as legitimate numismatic items rather than novelties.
