The Four Solaire d'Odeillo, built in the Pyrénées-Orientales in the early 1970s, uses 63 heliostats and a massive parabolic reflector to concentrate sunlight to temperatures exceeding 3,500°C — among the highest achievable outside a nuclear reactor. It remains an active research facility operated by CNRS, which is what distinguishes it from the purely heritage sites more commonly featured in this souvenir series.
