The zero-euro souvenir note program, administered by the ECP and printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire, has no legal tender status anywhere — deliberately so. Launched commercially around 2015, the scheme licenses attractions and municipalities to issue collector pieces at face value of roughly €3–5 retail, trading entirely on novelty. Oberthur prints them to genuine euro-series security specifications, including intaglio and UV-reactive elements, which is either an admirable commitment to authenticity or an expensive irony, depending on your view.
Futuroscope, the science-themed park near Poitiers, was an early and enthusiastic participant in the program.
