The 0 euro souvenir program launched formally in 2015, with Oberthur Fiduciaire printing the notes to genuine euro security specifications — same paper, same watermark technology — despite the denomination carrying no legal tender value anywhere. Chinon's royal fortress, one of the Plantagenet strongholds where Joan of Arc famously met the Dauphin Charles VII in 1429, is among the more historically defensible subjects in the series.
Collectors should note that print runs for individual tourist site issues vary considerably and are not always disclosed by UEJE, making scarcity assessment unreliable at time of purchase.
