Europa-Park's Piraten in Batavia ride — originally built by the Dutch firm Etienne Timmer and opened in 1987 — burned catastrophically in May 2018, destroying the attraction almost entirely. The souvenir note commemorates the rebuilt version, which reopened in 2020 after a two-year reconstruction effort that incorporated updated effects while preserving the original storyline set in the Dutch colonial spice trade.
Oberthur Fiduciaire produces the entire EuroSouvenir series under licence from the ECB, which formally authorised the zero-denomination collector format in 2017. The hologram strip is genuine security-grade work — the same supplier infrastructure used for circulating European banknotes.
