The Episcopal Palace at Astorga was designed by Antoni Gaudí beginning in 1889, commissioned after a fire destroyed the previous structure. It is one of only two Gaudí buildings outside Catalonia and remained unfinished during his lifetime after a dispute with the diocese led him to abandon the project in 1893. Oberthur Fiduciaire, long a supplier of genuine fiduciary documents for multiple European central banks, has printed the bulk of the eurosouvenir series — an arrangement that gives these collector pieces genuine security-paper credentials despite carrying no legal tender status anywhere.
