EuroSouvenir notes are printed to the same security specifications as circulating euro banknotes — same paper substrate, same Oberthur Fiduciaire production line — but are explicitly demonetized by design, issued solely as licensed tourist keepsakes. The program was authorized by the European Central Bank and launched in 2015, with individual venues and institutions commissioning their own designs within strict ECB-approved guidelines.
The Prado commission is one of hundreds in the series. What distinguishes it from a postcard is the printer behind it.
