Part of the EuroSouvenir program administered by the Union Européenne des Musées et Wallet (UEMW), this note was issued to commemorate Douarnenez, a Breton fishing port historically known for sardine canning — an industry that made the town one of the most industrialized corners of Finistère by the late 19th century. "Bolomig" is the Breton-language name for the town, reflecting the broader cultural push in these souvenir issues to foreground regional and minority language identity alongside French.
Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of France's principal security printers, produces the entire EuroSouvenir series to genuine banknote specification — correct paper weight, security thread, and UV-reactive inks — despite the notes carrying no legal tender status anywhere.
