Chaumont-sur-Loire has hosted the Festival International des Jardins since 1992, and this zero-euro souvenir note — part of the first wave of the EuroSouvenir program launched in 2015 — was among the earliest issues in what became an unexpectedly prolific collectible series. Oberthur Fiduciaire printed the run with the same security features applied to genuine currency: watermark, security thread, microprinting. The intention was partly to deter counterfeiting of the souvenirs themselves, which nobody anticipated would matter until the secondary market proved them wrong.
