The EuroSouvenir program issues these zero-denomination notes as licensed collectibles, not legal tender — they carry the physical format of a genuine euro banknote but are produced purely for the tourist and philatelic market. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of Europe's major security printers, handles production, which gives the series a level of technical finish that cheaper souvenir issues lack. The Columbus theme is among the most widely sold in the program, particularly at Italian and Spanish sites with direct connections to the 1492 voyage.
