The zero-euro souvenir note program, launched commercially by Oberthur Fiduciaire in 2015, is a genuinely unusual creature — a legal-denomination banknote with no redemption value, produced to ECB specifications purely for the collector market. Oberthur prints them to the same security standards as circulating currency, which is why the hologram stripe is identical in construction to those found on genuine euro issues. The Cité du Train in Mulhouse holds the largest railway collection in Europe, which makes it a logical candidate for this series.
