EuroSouvenir notes are legal tender novelties — technically issued at face value of zero, they are sold above that as collector items and carry no redemption obligation. The series launched in 2015 with a handful of French tourist sites, and the Cherbourg Cité de la mer was among the earliest releases. Oberthur Fiduciaire printed the run to full security-note specification, which is part of the commercial appeal — genuine intaglio printing, UV features, and a serial number signed by R. Faille as authorizing signature.
La Cité de la mer opened in 2002 inside the former Gare Maritime Transatlantique, the terminal that once handled Atlantic liner traffic including Titanic's last port call in April 1912.
