The EuroSouvenir program — administered by the Union Européenne des Amis de la Monnaie (UEAM) — launched in 2015 as a licensed collectible series, with zero face value by design, sidestepping legal tender regulations entirely while borrowing the Euro note format. Oberthur Fiduciaire, which prints genuine Euro banknotes for the Banque de France, produced this issue, meaning the security substrate and print quality are indistinguishable from circulating currency to the untrained eye.
Chenonceau was among the earliest landmarks selected for the series — a commercially obvious choice given the château's status as France's second most-visited historic property after Versailles.
