Eurobillet launched its 0 euro souvenir note program in 2015 in partnership with the Banque de France, which formally authorized the series as legal-format collectibles — identical in dimension and paper construction to circulating euro notes but carrying no monetary value. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the two French security printers that has produced actual euro banknotes, handled production, which gives these pieces a level of technical authenticity unusual for tourist souvenirs.
The Carrières des Lumières, the immersive art projection venue carved into former limestone quarries near Les Baux-de-Provence, was among the earliest sites in the program. Its selection made commercial sense — the site draws over 400,000 visitors annually.
