The 0 Euro souvenir note program, administered by the Union Européenne des Collectionneurs de Souvenirs (UECS), launched in France in 2015 and rapidly became the dominant model for museum and heritage site merchandising across Europe. Oberthur Fiduciaire prints them to genuine banknote specification — watermarked paper, intaglio-adjacent finishing — which is precisely the point: the tactile legitimacy is what drives the retail price.
The Mémorial de Caen opened in 1988, built on the site of the wartime headquarters of the German military governor of Normandy. June 6th, 1944 remains the single most visited date in the entire souvenir note catalog.
