The Tour Pey Berland is the freestanding bell tower of Bordeaux Cathedral, built separately from the nave in the 15th century to prevent bell vibrations from damaging the church's stone fabric — a practical medieval engineering decision that gives the city one of its more unusual Gothic silhouettes.
