The EuroSouvenir program, administered under license from the European Central Bank, authorizes the production of legal-tender-format zero-denomination notes for the tourist and collector market. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the few security printers with full ECB approval for euro substrate work, handles much of the series output from its French facilities. These notes meet genuine banknote production standards — security paper, intaglio printing — despite having no monetary function whatsoever.
Bom Jesus do Monte, the baroque sanctuary complex above Braga, draws pilgrims who climb its monumental zigzag staircase on their knees. The 2019 issue date places this among the earlier regional Portuguese releases in the souvenir series.
