EuroSouvenir notes occupy a peculiar legal niche: they are not legal tender and carry no monetary value, but are printed to official euro banknote specifications by licensed security printers under arrangements with the European Central Bank. Oberthur's involvement lends these novelty items the same production credentials as genuine circulating currency — the hologram foil strip here is identical in application method to that used on standard issues.
