The zero-euro souvenir note program launched in France around 2015 and quickly became a significant secondary revenue stream for tourist sites and regional bodies — Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the few security printers with the ECB-authorized specifications to produce euro-format collector notes, has handled the bulk of the print runs. These are legal tender in the technical sense that the Banque de France does not prohibit them, but no retailer is obligated to accept them, and none ever circulate.

Beauvais's cathedral holds a specific claim to fame that most souvenir notes cannot match: the choir vaulting, at 48.5 metres, is the tallest Gothic choir ever built — and it collapsed twice during construction in the 13th century.
