EuroSouvenir notes are a French-driven commercial scheme launched around 2015, sold at tourist sites across Europe as legal-tender-adjacent novelties — they carry a face value of zero but are manufactured to genuine banknote specification by licensed security printers, Oberthur among the most frequently contracted. The arrangement requires the issuing attraction or municipality to purchase a minimum print run, making each release a small commercial gamble on visitor footfall.
Ávila's medieval walls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985, are among the best-preserved Romanesque military fortifications in Europe — roughly 2.5 kilometres of granite curtain wall with 88 towers, begun in the late eleventh century under Alfonso VI.
