Auvers-sur-Oise is best known as the village where Van Gogh spent the last seventy days of his life and is buried, and the Château d'Auvers — a 17th-century manor restored in the 1990s as a permanent immersive exhibition on Impressionism — trades heavily on that proximity. This zero-euro souvenir note is one of the earliest in what became a flood of such issues after 2015, when Oberthur Fiduciaire developed the format specifically for the European tourist market. Legal tender for nothing, but printed to the same security specifications as circulating Euro banknotes, including genuine intaglio printing.
