Comments

The "poètes maudits" designation comes directly from Paul Verlaine's 1884 critical anthology, which grouped Rimbaud alongside Corbière and Mallarmé as poets too strange or uncompromising for mainstream recognition. Rimbaud had already abandoned writing entirely by then — he was trading in coffee and hides in the Horn of Africa while Verlaine was rehabilitating his reputation in print.

Oberthur Fiduciaire produces these Euro Souvenir issues as legal-novelty collector pieces, printed to genuine security-paper standards but carrying no monetary value. The zero denomination is a formal requirement of the program, not a comment on Rimbaud's finances, which were, by his final years in Aden and Harar, considerably more substantial than most assume.
