Sainte-Mère-Église was the first French town liberated by American forces on 6 June 1944, and the Airborne Museum there — built around the actual C-47 and WACO glider used in the operation — was well established long before the souvenir note program launched. The town's association with the 82nd Airborne, and specifically with paratrooper John Steele who famously hung from the church steeple for hours, made it an obvious early subject for the EuroSouvenir series.
Oberthur Fiduciaire printed the full run of these 0 Euro collector pieces on genuine banknote cotton stock, giving them an authentic feel that cheaper souvenir formats lack — a deliberate choice to drive demand among collectors unfamiliar with the issuer's legal non-tender status.
