Christkindl is a small pilgrimage village near Steyr in Upper Austria, and its post office — opened in 1950 — operates only during the Advent and Christmas season each year, cancelling millions of letters with a special postmark that collectors worldwide treat as a destination in itself. The 70th anniversary of that post office is what prompted this souvenir note, part of the broader European 0 Euro collector series manufactured by Oberthur Fiduciaire for various cultural and institutional clients.
These notes carry no legal tender status anywhere. The series trades entirely on novelty and topical collecting, with Oberthur supplying security-paper production to keep the format credible.
