Euro Souvenir notes are a licensed novelty series introduced around 2012, produced by approved printers to the same dimensional and security specifications as genuine euro currency — including real security threads and holograms — but declared non-legal-tender by design. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of only a handful of firms accredited to print actual euro banknotes, handles production. The overlap in materials and manufacturer occasionally causes friction at automated teller machines, where the security features register as authentic.

The 2022 "20 Years of the Euro" subject marks the anniversary of euro coins and notes entering physical circulation in January 2002.
