EuroSouvenir notes have been produced under license from the European Central Bank since 2015, allowing tourist sites across the eurozone to issue legally denominated but non-circulating collectibles. Le Château du Rivau, a medieval fortress in the Loire Valley, joined the program in 2022. Oberthur Fiduciaire — one of the two main French security printers — handles the physical production, which accounts for the watermark inclusion despite zero face value and no monetary function whatsoever.
