The encircling legend at top reads REPUBBLICA ITALIANA, with the commemorative inscription SAN FRANCESCO D'ASSISI 1226 – 2026 below, marking the 800th anniversary of the saint's death. Surrounding the central motif, passages from the Canticle of Creatures (Laudes Creaturarum) in the original 13th-century Umbrian Italian are inscribed along both sides of the field. The denomination 0,75 Euro appears in the lower portion of the reverse. The overall composition reflects the Franciscan spirituality of praise for creation as expressed in the original text of the canticle.
