The P#65 series covers a fairly long window for a Guatemalan issue — six years during which the country was cycling through military and transitional governments, including the 1985 shift to civilian rule under Vinicio Cerezo. The Banco de Guatemala kept the note in production across that instability without design revision, which was a deliberate signal of institutional continuity from the central bank.
Giesecke & Devrient had printed Guatemalan currency since at least the 1960s, and the Munich relationship was durable enough that even during periods of U.S. pressure on Central American banking infrastructure, Guatemala retained its European printing contracts.
