San Javier is a small municipality in the Region of Murcia, and like hundreds of Spanish towns, its local council issued emergency fractional paper money during the Civil War after the Republic's coinage disappeared from circulation almost immediately following the July 1936 uprising. These consejos municipales had no legal banking authority — they issued scrip out of necessity, not mandate, which is why the series is so fragmented and poorly documented.

The Gari Morera catalog remains the principal reference for this material, and even it carries significant gaps for minor Murcian issuers like San Javier.
