Les Bordes is a small municipality in the Val d'Aran, the Pyrenean valley whose Occitan-speaking population and geographic isolation made it an administratively peculiar corner of Catalonia even before the Spanish Civil War. This note belongs to the wave of emergency fractional currency — *moneda de necessitat* — issued by hundreds of Catalan municipalities and local committees from 1936 onward, when hoarding stripped small coins from circulation almost immediately after the July coup.
Printed by Imprenta Escolar in nearby Les, the production quality reflects a purely local operation working under wartime constraints. Turró catalogues it as #484.
