The central field is dominated by a bold rectangular frame enclosing the denomination 0,50 PTAS. in large display type, above which the text VALE por un suministro de carne de appears in smaller italic script. Castro-Urdiales, a small Cantabrian port town, issued fractional emergency paper during the early months of the Spanish Civil War — a period when Republican-held municipalities across northern Spain were forced to produce their own small-denomination scrip after metallic coinage vanished almost entirely from circulation. The Basque-Cantabrian front made formal monetary supply from Madrid impossible, and dozens of ayuntamientos improvised accordingly.
The Gari Montllor reference remains unassigned, suggesting this piece was recorded but not yet fully catalogued at time of publication — a not uncommon situation with the more obscure municipal emissions of 1936.
