Bélgida is a small municipality in the Valencia region, and like hundreds of similar communities during the Spanish Civil War, its local council issued emergency fractional currency when the Republic's coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply absent. These municipal issues were authorised under Republican decree but produced entirely at local initiative, which meant no standardised printing quality, no central oversight, and an enormous range of paper stocks and impression methods across different towns.
The Turró and Gari catalogues remain the primary references for Valencian municipal paper; the dual citation here reflects how thoroughly this series has been cross-indexed by specialists working to untangle the hundreds of overlapping local emissions from 1936–1938.
