Bogliaco sits on the western shore of Lake Garda, and the camp there held Allied prisoners during the Second World War. Like many Italian PoW facilities, it issued its own internal scrip to allow limited canteen transactions while keeping hard currency out of prisoners' hands — standard Italian military practice under Circular 5510, which governed camp money across the peninsula.
These notes were printed locally, almost certainly in small runs on whatever stock was available, and were never intended to survive the war. Most were destroyed or surrendered at liberation. Surviving pieces are camp-specific and effectively unreplicable, which makes their scarcity structurally guaranteed rather than accidental.
