Korçë's brief run of municipal notgeld in 1918 is a direct product of French military occupation. The town — known to the French as Korytsa — was administered as an autonomous protectorate under French control from late 1916, and the local French command effectively ran civic affairs, including the issuance of emergency fractional currency when small change became impossible to source through normal channels.
The notes are among the very few pieces of Albanian notgeld from any period, which makes the series notable regardless of denomination. French military administration ended in 1920 when the town was incorporated into the Albanian state.
