Beschrijving keerzijde Green reverse with ornamental border framing a central allegorical vignette of a seated female figure wearing a Phrygian cap and holding a torch, sword, and cornucopia, accompanied by a lion — symbolic of the Spanish Republic. The surrounding text block, printed in green, sets out the conditions of issue and the guarantee of redemption at named local banking establishments. The composition balances the allegorical imagery with a dense typographic legend.

Opmerkingen

Villanueva del Arzobispo is a small municipality in the province of Jaén, Andalusia, and like hundreds of Spanish towns it was forced to issue its own fractional currency during 1936–37 after the Republic's central coin supply collapsed almost immediately following the military uprising. Silver and copper were hoarded or melted; small change simply vanished from circulation. Local emergency issues — known collectively as moneda local or billetes de necesidad — filled the gap, printed or sometimes even rubber-stamped by town councils working with whatever materials were at hand.

Gari Mon 1616-B indicates a variant within the Villanueva del Arzobispo series, suggesting at least two distinguishable types were produced for this denomination.
