Señera is a small municipality in Valencia's Ribera Alta comarca, and like hundreds of similarly modest Spanish towns, its municipal council issued emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republic's centimos coinage all but vanished from circulation. These local issues — known collectively as papel moneda local — were authorized under a 1936 decree permitting municipal bodies to print their own low-denomination scrip to keep retail trade functioning.

At roughly the size of a large postage stamp, this quarter-peseta note was almost certainly produced on basic office equipment, possibly a local print shop in the comarca. The Turró and Gari Mon references confirm it as a documented emission rather than a fantasy piece, though surviving examples are scarce simply because most were redeemed or discarded once normalcy — briefly — returned to Republican-held Valencia.
