Opmerkingen

Riudarenes is a small municipality in the Selva comarca of Girona, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional paper currency after the collapse of metallic coin circulation in 1936–37. The Republican government's inability to supply adequate small change pushed local councils — ajuntaments — into printing their own emergency notes, collectively known as "moneda de necessitat." Casa Franquet was one of several Girona print shops pressed into this role, producing notes for multiple municipalities across the province.

Turró's catalog documents well over two thousand of these local emissions. The sheer volume makes individual survivals hard to track, but small-town issues like Riudarenes typically circulated only within the municipality itself.
